First activities
Week 1 – arriving and learning the tasks
The first week was short but filled with information and new knowledge. Luckily, everyone here is friendly, helpful, and patient. I learnt about the daily tasks and responsibilities, about the area and surroundings, and most importantly about the ecological way of life.
Restoring a water fountain
The summer is hot and dry, and therefore one of the tasks was to clear out a way through the bushes to a water fountain. Saving water is an important task in all daily activities, as there are no significant water reserves around. This reminds me of the limits of nature – eventually, some necessary natural resources can and will run out, and it is about our actions being sustainable and reasonable with our daily usage of resources.

Building a fence
Another task of the week was to finish a fence around the surrounding area. There are two horses here that provide nutrition to worms, that again provide life of better quality to plants. Keeping the horses safe required a fence around the area. As the final step to building the fence, we built a gate from natural materials using hand tools or electric ones. All materials except for the electric fence itself were natural, and the gate was made to fit into the surrounding view. Now the horses are welcome to join us, exciting!

Other activities
Besides these tasks, the first week was full of learning how to provide nutrition to the community, how to maintain the garden by weeding the garden plots, and getting to know the people in the area. The people here are the friendliest and most welcoming, such a pleasure to get to know everyone!
