The Ghost Village
The Ghost Village is a mysterious abandoned village located about a one-hour walk from Vegetarium. The path to get there will take you through a road deep in the forest, which is surrounded by fallen trees and absolute silence. Taking this walk on a winter morning will really make you feel as if you’re walking through cursed lands straight out of a fantasy book. This feeling is further reinforced the moment you catch sight of the first house.
The village stands in a forest clearing where the views are truly amazing. The houses look old, adding to the mysterious atmosphere. Some of them look like they were left behind completely. In the rooms, you can still find pieces of furniture like wardrobes or beds. On the walls, old calendars show that life has been absent here for a long time. My favorite thing to see inside one of the houses was an old radio that added even more mystery to the place.
Outside the houses, you can see piles of chopped wood, giving the impression that someone will eventually come out to collect some for a fireplace. Silence will be your only companion in this place, as it truly feels like time has stopped here. One of the houses has something slightly eerie on its outside wall: an animal skin, though I couldn’t identify which species it belonged to.
Even if the overall atmosphere of the place is somewhat unsettling, don’t worry—you’re not actually in danger. Although its name suggests otherwise, there are no actual ghosts living here, so if you’re hoping for a paranormal encounter, this place is not for you.
After some research, I found out that there is actually someone living in one of the houses (—fortunately, I didn’t decide to investigate that on). It turns out to be a man who takes care of the area by preserving the ecosystem. The most recent development he carried out the digging of a pond, which attracts different animals such as frogs, turtles, and snakes, while also providing drinking water for other species in the forest.
The village is a wonderful place to find peace and experience a certain sense of magical wonder. Even if the most probable reason for its abandonment was the lack of connection with civilization, anyone visiting the place is free to imagine their own story.
Overall, the Ghost Village is quite eerie, but also a wonderful place to visit. It has the power to transport the most creative people into a magical atmosphere.
