My first solo trip

Arriving in a new country on my own for the first time was both exciting and a little nerve-racking, but it turned out to be a great experience.

From the moment I landed in Bulgaria, everything went surprisingly smoothly. Whenever I wasn’t sure where to go, I simply asked a few people for help, and everyone was friendly and pointed me in the right direction. Even buying a train ticket, which was a bit confusing at first, worked out just fine in the end.

One thing I quickly realised is that not being able to read the signs or understand the language forces you to slow down and let go of the need to control everything. Instead of stressing, I found myself accepting that things would somehow work out; and they did.

I had been looking forward to travelling alone for the first time for a long time, and finally doing it felt incredibly rewarding. It gave me a sense of independence and confidence that I hadn’t experienced before.

When I finally arrived, the other volunteers gave me such a warm welcome that I immediately felt at home. Since then, I’ve been settling in well. Every day brings something new to learn, whether it’s about the culture, the language, or simply life here. It’s a challenge, but it’s exactly the kind of adventure I was hoping for.
