My first week at Vegetarium was full but it was also filled with new informations and knowledge. I was lucky that everybody here is super friendly and open, they helped me understand how everyday life works and what they do in a day.
What surprised me the most is how different life here is. We live in contact with nature and we appreciate every little aspect of it, which is often underestimated and not valued when you live in a city.
Between the volunteers, we split tasks every week and during my first week I got the chance to take care of the sweet cat that lives with us and I also got the chance to take care of the garden we have, checking if there were any vegetables that could have been picked and eaten that day.
I also got the chance to cook for everyone, sharing a piece of my culture with the other volunteers. I was also able to help clean the roof and take out the leaves so that the water could flow naturally.
What I learned from my spending my first week here is that everybody, every single volunteer, is a wonderful person and what we do day to day really helps me to appreciate more what surrounds me and it helps me to focus even on the small tasks that I might overlook when I’m in Italy.
