Manure as Far as the Eye Can See

Because that’s exactly what I was preoccupied with most of last week. The fact that our two horses, Pepi and Rada, are allowed to move freely on our not-so-small property is really nice to see. What is less nice to see, however, is the quantity of horse manure they produce in the process. Especially for the person who has the task this week of collecting the horse apples.

An important task, because we need it as fertilizer for the plants. Nevertheless, it is a very time-consuming and physically demanding work. That’s why I was very grateful for the support from Annika and Serena. But the horses themselves also made the effort worthwhile, because with Joanna’s help, we were allowed to ride on them for the first time this week. A cool experience that reminded me of days gone by at home.

But that’s not all: With the most beautiful, sunny autumn weather, we were able to continue working a bit on the Clay House. This time in the basement, where the neighbor’s goats are supposed to get shelter in winter. We set about filling the holes with clay, but quickly realized that we wouldn’t get far with the existing wooden structures. So we quickly got ourselves an electric screwdriver and a few screws to solve the problem.

Furthermore, Filip returned from his trip to Greece with olives, which we sorted for hours to separate the damaged ones from the intact ones.

Apart from that, I used the nice weather for excursions. Together with Annika and Serena, I set off on a small hike to Bov, a small village behind our mountain. During a nice little tour to the nearby waterfall, we also came across a stray dog, which Serena affectionately called Bilo. While his affection was cute at first, it turned into a problem later, when he followed us all the way back to the Vegetarium. We would have gladly kept him, but after his first collision with our cart, it quickly became clear that nothing would come of it.

Another excursion took Rebecca, Serena and me to Sofia, where we met Inka at a climbing gym. A day full of delicious food, nice conversations, and the best company.
