Visiting Plovdiv – Architecture and Sunsets
During my volunteering project I also want to explore more parts of Bulgaria so a few days ago I went travelling. My destination was Plovdiv, a city located in the south-central part of the country and many people recommended me to visit it.
Now, after spending a few days there I can say that it is definitely worth a visit as it has a lovely old town with beautiful architecture.
My journey began early in the morning when I left Vegetarium with another volunteer to walk to the nearest train station.
After many hours in the train, we finally arrived in Plovdiv and spent the day walking around the city. We got some food and went to one of the hills, that are part of the city, where we also met with another volunteer.
When walking around in Plovdiv you can see many ruins from ancient Rome all across town. One of them is the amphitheatre which is in fact one of the world’s best preserved ancient Roman theatres. That evening, a famous Bulgarian singer had a concert there and we went to see it. The scenery of the amphitheatre at night was really impressive and we had a great time.
The next days, I explored the old town with all its beautiful buildings. No matter which alley I went, I never got disappointed because it was pretty everywhere and walking on the cobblestone almost felt like time travelling.
In the evening it’s nice to watch the sunset from Nebet Tepe, one of the hills, and to enjoy the view over the city.
