Quiet Winter Days in the Mountains
When the cold winter settles into the mountains, everything becomes quieter. Outdoor work, like on the construction site, is usually not possible, so we spend our days indoors. When the snow falls outside and the cold wraps the land, we light fires in our stoves, write articles, study, clean the house, or do small craft projects indoors.
It’s also a joy to walk in the fresh, sparkling snow or slide down the mountain on a small plastic sled. In this weather, even the horses seem especially magical. Everything transforms into a charming winter wonderland, and a peaceful calm spreads throughout. It feels as though Father Frost is laying his blanket over us, giving us a cozy, homely feeling.
While I was walking outside today, breathing in the cold, fresh air and letting my gaze wander over the distant, snow-covered mountains, a warm, pleasant feeling of security washed over me. A sense of unity with nature and with myself. The snowflakes fell onto my jacket, each one perfectly shaped – magnificent and beautiful. It reminded me how, just like the snowflakes, we humans are unique in our diversity and beauty. In the midst of the winter stillness, one becomes humble in the face of this magical nature in the embracing depth of winter.
When I throw the last log into the fire in the evening, I always think of my favorite childhood book and the wonderful memories of family, friendship, and warmth.
„Der Bär streckt sich behaglich aus
Bald wird es still im kleinen Haus.
Auch Wanja deckt sich wieder zu:
Gut´ Nacht und angenehme Ruh!“
