Initiative in the ESC Project: Small Things, Big Impact
In my ESC project, I quickly realized how important it is to pay attention to the small things that are often overlooked. Sometimes it’s the inconspicuous repairs that make all the difference – a wobbly chair, a loose door handle, or a crooked dresser. These are things that can easily get lost in the hustle and bustle of daily life, but they still cause frustration and affect the overall atmosphere.
For me, it’s a way to contribute to the project in my own way – using the skills I have and enjoy. It’s not about making big changes, but rather making everyday life a little more pleasant for everyone through small fixes. Sometimes all it takes is tightening a few screws or carving a new foot for a piece of furniture to solve problems that no one else notices.
In a project that’s often stressful and full of tasks, it can be hard to focus on these details. This is where I see my opportunity to help: By taking care of these small things, I can ease the burden on the team and allow them to focus on the bigger tasks at hand.
I also bring my own qualities and experiences into the project. I’ve built things myself that I felt were needed – like a box for the firewood or a table made of recycled materials for another volunteer who didn’t have a proper workspace. This way, I can contribute my craftsmanship skills and create small solutions that make daily life easier for everyone.
Because even the small things can make a big difference.
