Magical Mornings in Rila

What’s the best way to start the day? Right, watching the sunrise.

When we got the chance to spent one week in the Rila Mountains we experienced so many beautiful moments in nature. My favourites are probably the colourful sunrises.

Waking up at 5:30 am could be a bit challenging, especially because it was quite cold during the nights and mornings, however it really was rewarding and worth it.

In order to have a nice view we climbed on some rocks. Like that we could even see the Balkan Mountains in the distance.

Beneath us was a valley, most mornings still covered in some wisps of fog that dissolved slowly.

On the rocks we were sitting in complete silence, everyone was mesmerized by the beauty of nature. I really enjoyed the calmness of these minutes and the company of people who appreciate this moment.

While most of the sky was still dark from the night, the horizon was tinged in colours that grew increasingly more vibrant as time passed.

The rich palette of colours transitioned from a soft pink to a stronger red and orange.

In the beginning I didn’t know exactly where the sun would rise, but soon we saw the bright, pink, glowing sun rising up from behind the mountains.

Nonetheless it wasn’t always this beautiful. One morning we woke up and saw nothing but thick, white fog. But that was okay because it made me cherish the next morning and sunrise even more.

Especially the sunrise on our last morning was really stunning because the waning moon stood opposite to the sun. So for one short moment, the sun and moon saw each other until the moon disappeared behind the mountain.

For me it was really special to see the sunrises because at home I’m not able to see them. These magical mornings are definitely something I will remember.
