Winter Is Waiting For You

Vegetarium Home is located in a peaceful and relaxed area where you can go out in the sun, lay in the grass, take a nap, relax, or do some practices. The view is incredibly beautiful; you can observe green valleys adorned with beautiful flowers while birds sing in the background. You might spot butterflies or even some wild animals like foxes, rabbits, or squirrels. Going for a walk is one of the best activities to do. You might experience waking up in the morning to the first light of the warm sun and looking out the window to see an astounding view of the mountainous landscape.

Personally, I used this place to develop some of my hobbies, like reading outside under the sun or playing the guitar. Life just seems perfect—until you face winter. Peace is far from the word that describes winter here. It’s true that there are fewer tasks to do, but I would still describe winter here as a fight for survival. Forget about lying down in the grass—it’s frozen. For meditation practice, you’ll have a very effective and challenging relaxation exercise called “Try Not to Freak Out While Trying to Start the Fire and It’s Not Working for Over 30 Minutes.” Obviously, over time you get better, but a bad day with bad wood can bring out the worst in even the most experienced.

Also, try not to miss the walks in nature, as your main walk will now be carrying wood from outside to your room to survive the night. The animals will be waiting for you in spring because during winter, if they’re still alive, they’re definitely hiding. You won’t see a single bird. What you will definitely see is the neighbor’s dog with desperate eyes, wandering around at night trying to get some of the cat food left around here.

However, one of the most challenging parts is the night. Winter adds to your bedtime routine: running around trying to find warm socks, filling hot water bottles, and grabbing a third hoodie to put on before jumping under six blankets—only to realize it’s still cold. Waking up now happens to the sound of an annoying alarm, and the view you jump to see is the thermometer showing that inside the room, the temperature is 2 degrees Celsius (for comparison, a fridge is 6 degrees).

Regarding electricity, forget about stable Wi-Fi during winter. At the slightest weather problem, the electricity could be cut for days. You might think, “No problem, we have solar panels!” Well, let me disappoint you. Outside, there’s nothing but clouds, which means the panels can’t charge. You might have just enough electricity to charge your phone and flashlight, but for the rest… forget it. Another day, the solar panels won’t heat the water, and someone will have to spend hours heating it with fire—which takes forever.

This is what you can expect during winter at Vegetarium. It’s true that the other seasons are beautiful and the natural experience is amazing. However, we’ve all heard the phrase, “Good things don’t last forever.”
