W14 – hike to Malyovitsa and hut Ivan Vazov

This week I have had a few days off from regular work. The days off were spent in nature with other volunteers from vegetarium, as we decided to organize a hiking trip to Malyovitsa. It was a group effort – one person organized the route, one figured out the meals, others prepped equipment and together we had a great trip. It was a bit colder at higher altitudes than we had expected. At Vegetarium the temperature was around +15C, but after a few kilometers of hiking from the village Malyovitsa we could see snow on the trees. On the way it started snowing and at the top there was snow cover. However, we were very careful with our steps, we put on all the extra layers and the hike was good. We stayed the night at the Ivan Vazov hut, who I had actually “met” the day before in Kostenets. Ivan Vazov was a Bulgarian poet, who lived at the beginning of the 20th century. In Kostenets there was his statue and some poems describing Bulgarian nature.

I really enjoyed the trip to the mountains. Luckily we are planning another trip in a few weeks!
