Tree-planting-day!

Yesterday was very exciting because it was tree-planting-day!

In the morning we left after breakfast because we had around five kilometres of walking ahead of us. Our way led us through the forest and we passed by the ghost village but to my surprise the houses didn’t look as abandoned as I had imagined.

At a crossroads we didn’t know which way to take so we chose the longer one to be sure. It was quite steep but the autumnal forest looked beautiful with the fog between the trees.

Finally, we reached the destination and one part of our group started to make a fire while we waited for the forester’s truck with the other volunteers to arrive.

As soon as we were all here, Filip explained the correct way to use the tools and how to plant the little oak trees.

Afterwards we formed small groups, ideally with three people. Like this, one could prepare the soil so that the tree gets enough water, the second person dug the hole and the third planted the tree.

Unfortunately, it started to rain which made everything a bit more difficult. But despite the weather conditions the people weren’t discouraged and continued which was nice to see.

After a few hours of planting, we were hungry and returned to the campfire, where we tried to heat up the food that we brought in two huge pots. The day before we started early in the morning to cook over 30 portions of food which we could now enjoy.

All in all, the tree-planting was very successful and I’m happy to have spent the day with all these kind and motivated people.
