Arrival of a cold autumn : lifestyle changes
This week, temperatures dropped suddenly, so much so that it felt like we had gone straight from summer to winter. We therefore had to adapt as quickly as possible to the new weather, which was getting colder and colder, until one day we even had thirty centimetres of snow !
As we were used to live outdoors, our entire lifestyle was affected : first, we had to move the summer kitchen indoors, where we started lighting the big cast-iron stove and cooking over a wood fire⦠and fortunately, because when it snowed we were without electricity for several days, so cooking over a wood fire saved us ! The snow also caused some damage, as it melted on the roofs and caused seepages into the house ; and as the trees still had all their leaves when the snow arrived, they became so heavy that many of them broke or collapsed onto the road or into the gardens, preventing us from driving the car and damaging several crops.
We therefore had to urgently shelter and dry wood for the fire, clear the road and cut down trees around it, clear away the mixture of leaves, branches and snow that had accumulated on the roofs, and save the plants that could be saved, while adapting to the lack of electricity : a challenge that we took on together in good spirits, sharing moments around the fire or playing cards that will remain unforgettable.
